Pertemps Driving Academy Candidate

Leanne Beer recently received funded training from the Pertemps Driving Academy. Leanne has up-skilled to gain her Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Category C and C+E licence entitlements. She tells us all about her time with the Pertemps Driving Academy.

"From a young age I’ve been interested in driving. My Granddad used to be a Driver and he has been a big influence throughout my life. I used to go out on the road with him, we travelled all over the country, so my desire to drive probably stems from how much I enjoyed my time with him when I was young."

I used to be a Section Leader at Asda where I worked for nearly seven years. I built my way up through the company, but as time went on I eagerly wanted a change so decided to finally pursue a career in driving. I chose Pertemps not only for the financial support they offer but because I knew it’s a reputable company and I’m guaranteed work for at least two years which is great. Thanks to Pertemps I am now a fully qualified LGV Driver; 2 weeks ago I took my LGV Category C+E test which I passed first time. The Driver Trainers are brilliant - any support you need they are more than happy to help. They’ve all been drivers for years and you can learn so much from them.

The Pertemps Didcot branch also put me through my HIAB and Moffett training; this allows me to be able to drive a truck with a crane or carrying a forklift. I think it is great that Pertemps offer the opportunity to upskill and learn new skills. I’ve only been driving LGV vehicles for five months but I’ve come so far already. As far as being a woman in a typically male oriented industry goes, I really enjoy it. I work well with everyone I meet, some men don’t expect to see a woman in the driver’s seat but most won’t bat an eyelid. Everyone gets to know each other and it’s like being part of a little community.

If any women are looking to get into a driving career but aren’t sure if they should take the leap, I’d say go for it. I never thought I’d be where I am today but I am because I just went for it! You never know what you can achieve unless you try."
